Wolman Wood and Fire Protection Ltd. - Wood preservatives with the highest requirements

Meet Wolman's Experts: Interview with Verena Domin, Biological Technical Assistant

Interview with our Biological Technical Assistant, Verena Domin

"How long have you been working for Wolman and in which positions?

Since February 2020 I am working for Wolman Wood and Fire Protection GmbH as a biological technical assistant and quality management representative in the biological research laboratory. After graduating from the University of Applied Sciences in Mannheim as an engineer in biological chemistry, I first started my career at a sequencing company on Lake Constance in production and R&D and later also took on the tasks of the laboratory safety officer."

What attracted you to Wolman as your new employer?

"The Wolman Wood and Fire Protection GmbH job advertisement caught my eye when I decided to reorient my career after my parental leave. Working with biological material, be it wood, microorganisms or insects, in the lab and especially in our outdoor test fields is very exciting for me. I really like the daily challenges and variety of my tasks in the laboratory. Our customers can rely on us to implement all corporate processes according to international standards and to be able to secure this in the future through regular audits. Our biological testing laboratory is accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018. Our testing laboratory thus has formal recognition of the technical and organizational competence to test the efficacy of Wolman’s wood preservatives development. As a quality management officer, it is my task to ensure the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of our laboratory activities and to identify opportunities for further improvement. On a daily basis I learn new details at Wolman and am always fascinated by the great raw material wood."

What was your biggest challenge in your professional life so far?

"A big challenge was the induction during the Corona period. The distance rules and other measures made it difficult to get to know the colleagues, especially those from other departments."

Tell us something about your private life. What are you enjoying in your free time?

"I am mother of a 4-year-old whirlwind. In our free time we spend a lot of time outdoors, preferably hiking and biking in the Black Forest, visiting family and friends or having fun at regional fun Parks – especially those having a timber roller coaster." ?

What is your favorite holiday location and why?

"I like to spend my vacation with active holidays. In my free time I like to go hiking and biking and generally spend a lot of time in nature. My favorite country is Scotland. The nature there is beautiful and relaxing. My most memorable holiday was hiking the long West Highland Way."

We thank Verena for the insight in her professional and personal life.
